What a day, honestly.
Bright and early 6am wakeup time to eat breakfast. I did not have my breakfast ticket, but they weren’t really checking who had tickets and who didn’t… It’s fineeeeeee. Breakfast was kinda mid, though that might just be because I only looked at one section of the buffet. The pineapple could’ve been better tho.
Then, 8am departure for our morning rehearsal. That. Certainly happened. Reviewing the show was rather productive since we were just getting the show back into our hands, and thankfully, muscle memory doesn’t decay that fast. The problem was mostly with figuring out what we were doing for the pep rally later that night. I don’t know if we were just tired after sleeping for 2-6 hours or after rehearsing for 2 hours or if we just generally weren’t locked in, but we could not keep ourselves organized through all of the pep rally prep and rehearsal. Eventually we made it happen, but it was still frustrating at best.
Of course, we went straight to lunch afterward at the Ford Center at the Star (basically a huge, walkable plaza around the dome where we were playing later that night). Ate with some of the kappa gang at Mesero which is a wonderful tex-mex restaurant with a bit of a long wait-time probably caused by about 200 band and guard kids meandering in for lunch. I think the total time it took for us to get and eat our food was about 1.5-2 hours, so we still had at least an hour to kill before hopping back on the bus and to the hotel. The kappa gang I was with settled in the small, artificial, park-like area in the center of the plaza and really just laid around for a while because we were tired and full and the sun was warm. Really succumbing to our animal instincts here. Eventually, some people wanted to explore and broke off, and me and Sean started playing Mau, although considerably abridged and stressful due to the wind.
Back at the hotel, we slowly then quickly changed into our uniforms to head back to the plaza for the pep-rally-tailgate-fan-fest thing. I don’t know if we got there early or something, but there was a lot of waiting around then hurrying and rushing then waiting again. Eventually we got organized and on the way to the pep rally which was immediately disorganized again. I’m not really sure what happened, but we had some momentary troubles getting set up for our music. Oh well. Things happen, yeah?
For dinner, we were given Canes, a KKPsi EpPsi classic. The game happened, and although we lost, we almost pulled out of it in the end. I did manage to hurt myself while playing… I guess being super pridetastic isn’t all good nor safe. We could’ve played through our full show, I think, during halftime, but alas, the cards were predetermined. Though Arkansas State’s Band’s stands music is reminiscent of my high school’s music, they were much more entertaining in the stands and light years more lively. Dr. Snow seemed less than happy about our attitudes and energy, so I wonder if something will change next year.
Despite us being tired when we got back, we still played jackbox for a couple hours, though I did end up falling asleep as soon as it ended. Shoutout to Kenzie, Oliver, and Sean for making sure I didn’t kick my stuff off the couch and putting up with me insisting I didn’t fall asleep whenever I woke up like… three separate times.
Maybe sleep at normal times unlike us.
